WRITERS GIVEN CHANCE TO SEE THEIR WORK PERFORMED
Published: 8th March 2018
The WRITE Festival, in partnership with The Customs House, is seeking submissions for new writing.
Successfully shortlisted writers will have their work performed by professional actors as a rehearsed reading during the 2018 WRITE Festival, which runs from May 12 to 25 at The Word in South Shields.
There are two age categories: Under-25 and Over-25.
Plays should not have been performed previously and have no more than six in the cast.
Interested writers should submit the following:
- Name, date of birth, and a brief biography.
- Title of play, a brief synopsis and up to 15 minutes of their play.
The deadline for submissions is Friday, March 30, and entries should be sent via e-mail to Gareth Hunter at email@example.com.
Two plays will be shortlisted in each category.
One writer in each age category will then be chosen to work on their play with a mentor over a 10-month period. The finished plays will be performed at The Customs House during the 2019 WRITE Festival.
The shortlisted writers would need to be available on Thursday, May 24, at 7pm, at The Customs House (Under 25), or at 2pm on Monday, May 21, at The Word (Over 25) to attend the rehearsed reading.
The two successful writers whose plays will be performed at the 2019 WRITE Festival will be decided and announced after the rehearsed readings.
Fiona Martin, Deputy Director – Learning and Participation at The Customs House, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for up to four emerging writers to have up to 15 minutes of their play read by actors in front of an audience during the WRITE Festival.
“This will be at The Customs House Studio and The Word.
“One play from each age category will be chosen to be developed with a dramaturge on behalf of The Customs House, to be performed as part of the WRITE Festival in 2019.”
