The Takeover’s Resident Theatre Company Announced

Published: 3rd May 2017

The Learning and Participation Team were excited to offer an emerging theatre company the opportunity to have five days to develop a new piece of work to be performed on Friday 2 June in the Main House of our venue.

After a careful process of considering applications and short-listing, we are delighted to announce that this residency has been awarded to The Rubber Ducks Theatre Company!

But who are these curiously named creatives and what will they be performing? We’ll hand over to The Rubber Ducks themselves to find out more:

“We are:

Ellie Butler – 21 Years old

Paul Gaitskell – 21 years old

Andrew Wharton – 23 years old

Rebecca Graham – 20 years old

We met at university, studying the same course at Newcastle College. We have worked together among an ensemble for almost two years, but have been working as a company just shy of one year.

Our previous experience as a group would be the multiple shows we have performed together at Newcastle College and our current project for ‘Live Across Newcastle 2017’. We have recently devised a short piece of theatre for a fringe-style event that our University has put together requiring us to develop industry skills and professionalism.

We hope to gain further professional experience whilst being a part of The Takeover, and gaining more knowledge about The Customs House. We are looking forward to working alongside other young artists and watching other people’s performances. We are extremely grateful and excited to be a part of this opportunity, and we can’t wait for the experience!

Our devised piece of theatre is a highly physical, absurd and comical piece of fringe theatre. We have created this story of a grandad and his grandchildren, in which they explore his memories through imagination and movement. It is an all-rounder of styles; however we have been highly influenced by Gecko Theatre and their unique approach to devised theatre. Our show is family friendly, visually interesting and just a bit odd!”

We are delighted to have The Rubber Ducks Theatre Company on board as part of The Takeover 2017, and can’t wait to see them in action.

Tickets to their show and the Senior Youth Theatre’s ‘Mix Up’ performance are now available through Box Office on a Pay What You Decide basis: https://www.customshouse.co.uk/theatre/senior-youth-theatre-present-mix-up-and-/
