The Takeover Festival returns in 2018

Published: 17th November 2017

We love Takeover Day here at The Customs House – so much so that we have a whole week for our Takeover!

In 2018 The Takeover Festival will see artists and arts leaders aged up to 25 take control of The Customs House. The festival will take place from Monday 28th May to Friday 1st June.

The Takeover Festival 2018 will be our biggest and best yet. This is thanks to support from Barbour Foundation, W A Handley Trust and Roy and Pixie Baker Trust, and our partners The Word, South Tyneside Council, The Shields Gazette, Red Squirrel Press and Bad Taste Cru.

The festival will see North East Young Filmmakers Awards, Terry Kelly Poetry Prize and Mean Teens Breakdance Jam return. We’ll also launch the Young Playwright in Residence and Theatre Residency project and The Takeover Open Art Competition.

Lots more exciting events and activities will be planned by The Takeover Team. The Takeover Team of volunteers aged 15-25 years work together to create new elements of the festival each year. But the team also help with the regular events by deciding on all the important details and helping to make them happen.

Kids in Museums are the national leads on Takeover Day. Follow the hashtag #TakeoverDay on Twitter for more information.
