Srijoni Women’s Group at The Customs House – Video

Published: 23rd June 2022

Since January 2022, The Customs House has collaborated with Sangini to develop arts and crafts sessions for women’s wellbeing, facilitated by local Bangladeshi artist Parvin Abdur. Bringing together local women, many of whom are of Bangladeshi heritage, this project has enabled participants to learn new creative skills and explore artistic ways of expressing themselves, whilst also offering a supportive space for mental and social wellbeing.

The group exhibited artworks developed in these sessions in the exhibition ‘Express Yourself’, as part of International Women’s Day celebrations. This exhibition was hosted by The Customs House in the Upper Fusion Gallery and made possible thanks to the participation of various local women’s groups. You can find more about the exhibition here.

We look forward to showcasing more work developed by the Srijoni Women’s Group in our upcoming exhibition in August 2022, as part of the wider celebration of the Bangladeshi Community in South Shields. (For more information, see the event ‘Celebrating Bangladeshi Independence in South Tyneside’.)
