VACANCY: Assistant Facilitator, The Customs House Youth Theatre

The Customs House is the premiere arts and entertainment centre in South Tyneside and has a national reputation for its work with young people and regional accolades for its theatrical productions, musical entertainment, and multi-award-winning annual Pantomime. The Customs House’s vision of Arts and Entertainment for All includes supporting our communities to take part in arts and culture. Projects for all ages take place in our gallery and rehearsal spaces, schools and around South Tyneside.

The Customs House has enriched and changed the lives of thousands in our communities through our programmes of work. The Learning and Participation team introduce people in South Tyneside to new artistic and cultural opportunities.

We work hard to support the development of artistic talent in South Tyneside and the surrounding area. We specialise in young people’s talent development, with this work described as “exemplary” by Arts Council England. We work closely with professional, emerging and beginner artists on our projects, both as facilitators and participants.

There will be additional fees paid for hours outside of the weekly sessions (e.g the two performances per year) paid at £10.00 per hour.

The role is a development opportunity for young practitioners to gain skills in facilitation, directing and of producing new work.

Interested candidates should have a strong interest and practical understanding of theatre and acting, and ideally will have been part of a youth theatre or young company.

The opportunity would not be possible without the support of our generous funder, Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation, and it is an opportunity to support the development of an emerging practitioner aged 17-25 years old. Please note there are no exceptions to this age remit.

To apply for this vacancy, please email a covering letter (not exceeding 450 words) outlining your relevant experience of participating in theatre activities, as well as any facilitating or directing experience you may have.
