Arts Award

Arts Award

The Customs House offers Arts Award, a qualification for young people up to 25 years old, as part of all our projects. In 2016/17 we supported 535 young people to achieve the award.

The Arts Award supports young people to develop as artists and arts leaders. However, the award also helps young people build their confidence and transferable skills. Creativity, communication, leadership and teamwork are all focuses of the award.

The Customs House supports children and young people to achieve the Arts Award at all five levels: Discover, Explore, Bronze, Silver, Gold.

We aim to support 200 young people to achieve the award each year, and have exceeded this since 2014.

Pupils from around South Tyneside have achieved the award through our Schools Learning Programme.

The Customs House is the region’s strategic lead for Arts Award delivery and support. We work closely with Culture Bridge North East throughout the year. This work includes initiatives to train and support Arts Award Advisers and increase the number of Arts Award moderations around the region.

We have supported 36 organisations around the North East to develop their Arts Award offer. Our initiatives We Are Ten and Discover in a Day have resulted in over 1000 additional moderations.

The Customs House is also a training agency for Trinity College London. We deliver Discover and Explore, and Bronze and Silver courses each year for new Arts Award Advisers.
