The Learning and Participation Team at The Customs House are pleased to have supported North East arts organisations to successfully deliver a Discover Arts Award in a Day. This was part of a pilot on behalf of Culture Bridge North East.

551 children achieved their Discover Arts Award working with the following organisations: Northern Gallery for Contemporary Art and Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens; Amber Film and Photography Collective; balletLORRENT; Northern Stage; Berwick Film and Media Festival; North Tyneside Music Education Hub; Beamish; Helix Arts and Gem Arts.

Elizabeth Kane learning officer said,

“The quality of arts opportunities available for children and young people across the North East is superb. In the pilot, we saw arts organisations give young people the chance to try new things, find out about different artists and share what they had learnt. The children worked so hard. It’s been wonderful to see so much high quality arts education.”

Discover Arts Award is an entry level qualification that develops children’s arts, communication and leadership skills. Arts Award is a national qualification certified by Trinity College London. The Learning and Participation Team are the strategic leads for Arts Award in the region. If you want to know more about Arts Award visit http://www.artsaward.org.uk/site/?id=64
