The Takeover Festival

The Takeover is an annual week-long arts festival at The Customs House that is produced by, with and for young people to develop and showcase their leadership skills. The festival is led, planned, marketed, delivered and evaluated by our Takeover Team, a group of 13-18 year olds who are recruited from diverse backgrounds and have varying leadership and arts experiences.

In the months of preparation and planning that lead up to the week of Takeover, a core team of young people aged 13-18 (recruited from local communities) are mentored and educated to undertake the process of programming a dynamic week of events. The Takeover Team met each week at The Customs House and programmed a fantastic Takeover Festival 2023 in which they took a lead on social media content creation, branding, transforming the venue, and programming diverse workshops and events!
