His Life: South Tyneside
A Retrospective Painting Exhibition of Jack Grassby
The Customs House Gallery
24 June – 24 July 2022
Opening 23 June 2022
His Life: South Tyneside celebrates and remembers Jack Grassby for all the many things that made him. In this exhibition, we take a deeper look into his visual art practice — a perhaps lesser-known side of his oeuvre.
The exhibition presents the wide range of themes and styles that interested Jack throughout his artistic explorations, showcasing landscapes of local scenery, still life and figures. These paintings and prints are joined by a series of his other works referencing the Union Flag, which were previously exhibited at The Customs House back in 1997.
The artworks in this exhibition are available to purchase through a silent auction, the proceeds of which are being donated to The Customs House, in keeping with Jack’s wishes to support the development of young people’s creative endeavours. Special thanks to Jack’s family, especially Anne Horn, for their support and generosity in this donation.
