Don’t Smile for the Camera

A Solo Exhibition of Pete Zulu

The Customs House Gallery
30 January –  31 March 2024

Pete Zulu is a photographic artist hailing from Sunderland, a founding member of punk band The Toy Dolls, and currently based in Boldon where he runs the Black Horse Pub.

Zulu’s work is an eclectic mix of black and white photography depicting various subjects found through Pete’s daily travels. Shot on his Leica camera, which he calls arguably the ‘best camera in the world’, his works have a timeless quality giving the sense they could have been taken today, yesterday, or a hundred years ago. Often depicting people caught candidly, or posed naturally, his works invite viewers to immerse themselves in these snapshots of beautiful but fleeting moments.
