On Wednesday 15th February 2017, Five Dead No Bodies opened at The Customs House, South Shields. The show written by Susan Wear and Rob Lawson is a comic-thriller set in the world of a local newspaper. The show opened to a packed out audience who loved the performance. Radio South Tyneside said it had ‘a superb talented cast‘ with ‘wonderful lines, puns and local references‘. While the Shields Gazette said, ‘the play is very much a comedy, full of quirky and lovable characters portrayed by a hard-working cast.‘ The British Theatre Guide said of the show, ‘Enjoyable, amusing and thought-provoking’. Luxe Magazine loved the show saying it was ‘a fast-paced, sharp, and very snappy script that was chock-a-block with comic irony, dark humour and one-liners.’

Radio South Tyneside made a great observation on the relevance of the show saying, ‘our local newspapers and theatres which we take for granted but now ignore in favour of the electronic seemingly equivalent option, they will be gone if we don’t support them.‘ The Shields Gazette also praised The Customs House for their continued work to bring new writing to the stage, ‘this was another great example of the work The Customs House is doing with new writers and smaller-scale productions, and an interesting approach to some of the big issues facing our news industry which have important ramifications for society as a whole.‘ The North East Theatre Guide echoed this saying, ‘Customs House should be praised for their continued support of new writing – this show is another one which is well worth putting your smart phone down for a couple of hours and going to watch it.’

Five Dead No Bodies runs until 18th February with performances at 7.30pm each night and matinee performances on Thurs 16th and Sat 18th at 2.30pm.
