Why Vote for The Customs House?

The Customs House thinks of our visitors as part of our family. You shape what we put on in our theatre, screen in the cinema, exhibit in the gallery and the types of activities we put on for you to take part in.

Every family, young and old, loves our panto The Lambton Worm. Under 7s are enjoying Santa’s Naughty Elf and earlier in the year loved David Hopper staring as Arbuthnot with Peggy, Mac, Merlin and Little Red in And The Cow Jumped into the Woods the sequel to The Cow Jumped Over The Moon. At Halloween Wendy the Witch put on a stellar show that kept children bewitched.

We’ve also brought so many brilliant performances for families to South Shields from visiting companies including Harry Panto and The Chamber Pot of Secrets ) and the Russian National Ballet’s The Nutcracker. We get big name stars too at affordable prices. Who else came to see the unforgettable show by Dick and Dom!

Maybe you like to take part in creative activities? Lots of families join us at Mini Makers where you get to make, create and explore. Have you been before? Or maybe your little ones are a little older and are members of The Customs House Youth TheatreFilmmaking at The Customs House or Pizza and Pencils. Did your children enter The Terry Kelly Poetry Prize, North East Young Filmmakers or Just Jam International and Bad Taste Cru’s Break Dance Jam as part of The Takeover? We pride ourselves on the quality and affordability of our work with children and young people (The Arts Council said we were outstanding!).

Finally, earlier this year The Customs House cinema brought you special screenings from big names Peppa Pig and Frozen’s Olaf. Maybe you’re planning to come as a family to see Elf or Home Alone? Or perhaps you’ll catch the advanced screening of Coco in the new year! So there are always family favourites on our big screen keeping you all entertained.
