Hidden away in the musty basement of Xaos Games, Low-Fell’s premier Dungeons and Dragons group meet each week in secret. Or, they used to. Once a thriving, nerdy community boasting multiple campaigns, now only five consistent members remain, and even then it’s a miracle if they all show up on time. Ti, Dan, Matt, Samantha, and Jade are a group of otherwise unlikely friends who gather around the table each week to fight goblins, compare polyhedral dice, and forget the doldrum of their normal lives. But recently, it’s seemed like even these five might be drifting apart. One fateful evening, they sit down and try to play a game, but their personal lives keep getting in the way. Will their characters (or their friendships) survive the night? Or will their own demons overcome them?

The play will be directed by North East creative, Aiden Nord. Aiden started his career as a character voice in the BBC educational series Ask Lara. He went on to appear in ITV’s Vera, BBC’s Doctors and the Iris Prize nominated short film POOF. His theatre credits include: Johnny in Intergalactic at Live Theatre, Newcastle, Doormouse in Alice in Wonderland at The Gala Theatre, Durham, and a number of roles at The Customs House, such as Jack in Arbuthnot and The Beanstalks and Savaloy in Little Red Riding Hood.  Aiden is taking on his first directing role with DEMONS and is excited about this new opportunity to develop his skills in a different facet of theatre and work with talented young actors from across the North East.

The Takeover Young Writer in Residence’s play gives emerging actors the opportunity to gain professional experience, and has become a hugely anticipated addition to the North East theatre scene, launching many young actors into professional careers.

Taking on the role of Ti is Silvia Mosquera.  Silvia is 17 years old and studying theatre, art and film at A-Level in Newcastle. She has always loved theatre, both plays and musicals, and participates in as many productions as she can both in and out of school. She is so excited to be taking part in her first ever professional acting experience, even more so that it’s with the wonderful Customs House!

Dan will be played by Sam Watson. Sam trained at London College of Music where he received his degree in acting. Since graduation Sam has been involved in Immersive Theatre Production, Night Cap and short films Karma & Lovely Lottie. He is an avid Dungeons and Dragons player and is a long time Dungeon Master like his character Dan. DEMONS will be his professional theatrical debut.

Performing as Matt, is Jonny Peyton-Hill. Jonny is an Offie Award nominated actor and writer originally from Gateshead, now based in London. He is a graduate of The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama and alumni of Project A and the National Youth Theatre. Founder of Homing Bird Theatre Company he received critical acclaim for his debut play Grey Area, which he wrote and performed in. Previous credits include, Jackson in Grey Area (Homing Bird Theatre/VAULT Festival/Kings Head Theatre), Puppeteer/Docent in Jurassic World: The Exhibition (Universal), Sam in My Oh My by James Smith (music video) & Scarecrow in Wizard of Oz (Newcastle Theatre Royal). Jonny is delighted to be performing back in the North East at The Customs House.

In the part of Samanatha will be Lucy Davis, a singer, actor and sometimes dancer from Newcastle and she is buzzing to be in this year’s Takeover. Recent credits include Chorizo in The Customs House Easter panto, Little Red Riding Hood, Megan in Blowin a Hooley’s Haddaway and Write’s Super Trooper’, Gilly in Tree Stump Theatre’s Christmas show The Enchanted Snow Globe and in Peachplant Production’s recent Greenhouse Event at Live Theatre. She is absolutely chuffed to be apart of DEMONS and can’t wait to get started!

And finally, in the roles of Jade and Radge will be Emily Corless. Project A trained, Emily has worked with companies from English Touring Theatre Company; Northern Stage to Barrel Organ Theatre Company. Most recently graduating Frantic Assembly’s 2023 Ignition programme. As well as her work on stage, Emily’s recent film work includes Hazy Pine Pictures’ current festival short Better the Neville You Know and upcoming Terabithia Pictures’ short What’s Owed. She is an avid writer and hopes to release her work in the near future- be it song, script or poetry. Emily trained as an athlete for the majority of her life and is currently exploring how that sits within her body as an actor. She strives to bring empathy, drive and openness into the room and cannot wait to get her hands dirty in this game of DEMONS!

DEMONS will be staged in the Main House as the finale of Takeover Festival on 31st May 2023.
