Eulogising specific locations in our landscape that are meaningful and potent in our lives offers us an opportunity to connect with nature and articulate our introspective reflections. In Gaelic the word ‘Moladh’ translates as ‘in praise of’ and is commonly used by poets as a title prefix to a place or person, one that is to be celebrated and worthy of a personal salutation. To witness the bard reciting the poem or song can be an illuminating experience.
This exhibition examines a moladh thematic with Marsden Rock as its subject. Artist Keith McIntyre has in recent years been producing a series of large-scale drawings in response to specific geographical locations in the North East. These ink on paper works interrogate the geological forms of their subject and resonate a graphic aesthetic that echoes earlier transcriptions in engravings and postcards; a once popular method of capturing memories and sharing our experiences of places that collectively fire our imagination.
