26/05/2010 - Jethro Tull To Play Outdoor Gig in South Shields

Legendary band Jethro Tull are set to rock South Shields in a one off special concert at Gypsies Green on Friday 17 September 2010.
In an exciting new initiative South Tyneside Council and the Customs House have joined forces to bring together the event to add to the cultural experience of this year’s Great North Run weekend.
Performing in a giant marquee at the site famous for being the finish of the world’s biggest half marathon, the famous musicians are certain to draw a massive crowd at this their only scheduled UK gig.
Going strong for over 40 years Jethro Tull features guitarist Martin Barre and is still lead by Ian Anderson, whose image of standing on one leg playing a flute is synonymous with the band.
Selling over 60 million albums world-wide, their music with its rich variety and depth of expression entertains fans, young and old, who want to hear rock, folk, jazz and classical-inspired sounds.
South Tyneside finest rockabilly outfit Bessie and The Zinc Buckets will play in support at this ticket only event.
Customs House Executive, Ray Spencer said: “I am delighted that we have secured the legendary Jethro Tull for this very special gig. I hope this is the start of a long and fruitful relationship with the Council to bring world class musicians to the area for gigs.”
Councillor Tracey Dixon, Lead Member for Culture and Wellbeing said: “We only have 3,000 tickets on offer so I’d recommend you get yours as soon as possible. It’s going to be a great night and another fantastic way of putting South Shields and South Tyneside on the map.”
