Recruitment Call Out | Takeover Curatorial Assistant

Published: 4th April 2022

We are currently recruiting a Curatorial Assistant to join the planning, development and installation of the Takeover 2022 Open Art Exhibition, as part of the Takeover 2022 at The Customs House in South Shields

The Takeover is a week-long arts festival at The Customs House that is produced by our Takeover Team, a group of 14 to 18-year-olds who are recruited from diverse backgrounds and have varying leadership and arts experiences.

The Festival launched in 2015 as a platform for work created at our venue by young people but has expanded to showcase the work of artists under 25 years old from all over the North East, working on music, dance, visual art, poetry and theatre projects. There are six milestone events that culminate in activities during the Festival: Queer Prom, The Terry Kelly Poetry Prize, The Takeover Open Art Exhibition, Gig Night, Mean Teens Breakdance Jam, and Young Writer in Residence. There are also a range of workshops and opportunities throughout the week.

The Takeover Festival won a Special Award for Young Achievement at The Journal Culture Awards in 2021.
