Creative Partnerships

Creative Partnerships works to give school children throughout England the opportunity to develop their potential, their ambition, their creativity and imagination through sustainable partnerships with creative and cultural organisations, businesses and individuals.

Creative Partnerships North and South Tyneside has been developing a number of innovative and individual programmes for each of the 15 core schools in the programme.

Arts Extend Project
The Customs house is proud to announce that it is part of a national pilot scheme ‘arts extend’, supported by Arts Council England, South Tyneside Extended Schools Service and Creative Partnerships North South Tyneside.
This project will build on Creative Partnerships practice and existing links with schools in the borough to establish a versatile visual arts space at Lord Blyton High school. Two visual artists will assist young people and the community in managing, programming and sustaining the space. Ten schools are involved across South Tyneside who will advise the development of the project, hopefully inspiring each other to develop similar facilities in each school. The project will seek to develop a strong partnership across the portfolio of extended services for schools. For more information contact Esen on 0191 4278199

Fish Quay Regeneration Project
Two Creative Partnerships primary schools in North Shields have embarked on an exciting new craft and story-telling project as part of the regeneration of the North Shields Fish Quay. The project, which will take place between November 2006 and March 2007, will bring to life the local areas rich history and contribute to community-building in the area. Activities will range from a ferry trip along the Tyne, singing at the Sage, a movement and dance performance, story-telling on site at the Fish Quay by local actors and storytellers, poetry and crafts and even fish-gutting!
The work, which will be carried out in partnership with local artists, will culminate in the creation of a mural for the new Fish Quay wall, incorporating the children’s ideas, poems and art-work.

Mentoring and development for Creative Professionals
The Sage Gateshead and Creative Partnerships North and South Tyneside are leading a pilot Creative Partner Apprenticeship Programme which will involve five artists, five apprentices and five mentors working together. Apprentices from a variety of artistic disciplines will be able to develop skills for delivering work in schools through the time honoured tradition of apprenticeship and will be supported by one to one mentoring. The project will begin with an Artist Lab and continue with the delivery of a project in school - half of which will be artist led and half apprenticeship led.
