Conference Venues
The Customs House is available to hire for conferences, seminars, wedding receptions and other events, with facilities for between 10 and 400 people.
The venue provides an ideal setting, housed in a picturesque listed building overlooking the River Tyne.
We can arrange coffee and buffets as required, the venue has been built with the disabled very much in mind.
The Customs House can offer five areas of the venue for hire:
Main Theatre
This state-of-the-art theatre can accommodate 400 people, and has raked seating for excellent viewing. It includes a stage, a large cinema screen, Dolby surround sound, and all the sound and lighting you would expect from a well-equipped modern theatre, including state-of-the-art Power Point and Digital Projection facilities.
Studio Theatre
This more intimate area can house 110 people in luxurious cinema seating, and again has state-of-the-art facilities, including a cinema screen and Dolby surround sound. Excellent lighting and sound are available, as are 35mm projection facilities.
The Gallery
This light and spacious area is ideal for business functions and informal meetings, and can accommodate 30 people sitting and 50 standing.
Community Room
Our beautiful new space in the Dalton\'s Lane annex, which can hold up to 150 people, and can be tailored to host any type of event. This room now caters for Wedding Receptions, serving hot and cold buffets.
Upper Foyer
This is a small area at the top of the building, which is ideal for small meetings, or for use as a business workshop area
Rehearsal Room
This purpose designed room has a laminated floor, ballet barre and mirrors, lighting, blackout curtains and changing facilities, and can comfortably house 50 people.
Hire charges include a Technician, Front of House staff, and the supervised use of in-house technical equipment. Event ticketing can be arranged if required, and prices are particularly favourable for non-profit organisations.
